Curriculum Transformation OBE for Higher Education
Outcome Based Education (OBE) shifts the focus from what is taught to what students can actually do after graduation. This approach is now mandatory for study programs seeking international accreditation and is strongly recommended by BAN-PT.
Core OBE Principles
OBE rests on four pillars: clarity of graduate learning outcomes (CPL), backward curriculum design, varied assessment methods, and continuous improvement based on outcome data. Every course must explicitly map to one or more CPL statements.
Implementation Stages
- Define CPL in consultation with industry stakeholders and professional bodies.
- Map each CPL to specific courses in the curriculum matrix.
- Design lesson plans (RPS) that include measurable learning outcomes and assessment rubrics.
- Collect outcome data each semester and use it to refine curriculum content and delivery.
Many universities start with one pilot study program before rolling out OBE campus-wide. Using dedicated OBE software helps track CPL achievement across cohorts and semesters.
